You can proof it by making your own compass.
To make your own magnet you will need this ingredient:
a. a horse-shoe magnet
b. 3 needles
c. a small strip of paper
d. some plasticine
e. sticky tape and scissors.

Follow this step:
1. Hold a needle by the eye and stroke it gently about 6 times with a magnet. Always move the magnet in the same direction.
2. Stroke a second needle in the same way. Fold the strip of paper in half and stick the needles to it with tape. Both needles must point the same direction.
3. Push a third needle in a small lump of plasticine. Balance the paper on top so that can swing. Mark the needle-eye end with an “S” and the point-end with an “N”.
4. If you want to take the compass outdoors, just hang the “N-S” paper of a thread. Tie the thread to a pencil and drop the paper into a glass jar.

Done. So simple right? Just try it…!

A sundial is a device that measures time by the position of the Sun. 1. Press a large lump of plasticine to the middle of a baking tray.
2. Press it hard, in order to make it stick well.
3. Put the tray on a big thick plastic bag. Hold the plasticine lump and rub the tray round and round on the bag.
4. Now pick up the tray by the plasticine. Hold a piece of metal, you can use a tin lid, close to one corner.
5. You will see a big spark jump from the tray to the tin. If you want to see it clearly, you can do it on the dark room.
